Land Trusts offer a number
of protection strategies to landowners who wish to voluntarily
protect their lands. A landowner may donate or sell land to
a Land Trust. Another option for a landowner is to grant a Land
Trust a conservation covenant on the land, placing permanent
protective controls on future uses of the land. The Land Trust
undertakes responsibility for enforcing the provisions of the
covenant even when the ownership of the land changes.
Land Trusts also engage in public education, landowner contact
and stewardship programs to raise awareness of the natural and
cultural heritage represented by our land. The aim of these
programs is to promote the voluntary protection of land and
its resources.
